September is self-care awareness month.

Hello there

Welcome to September’s blog, which is all about self-care. Actually, I am a great fan of the charity Action for Happiness.  Especially, I want to share some thoughts taken from their September calendar.  We all notice the changes that the autumn season brings. As a matter of fact, there’s no better time to focus on self-care and our wellbeing. September is the perfect opportunity to embark on a journey toward happiness and what better guide to accompany us than the Action for Happiness calendar? It’s packed full of guidance and tips for September self-care.

Why September?

Why is September is a good time to focus on Self-care? This is because September often marks the return to routine after the summer holidays. Fortunately enough, we are having a week of sunshine, which is so welcome. We make the most of the light evenings and even our British weather does not deter us to embrace the outdoors. However, for many, this change in season, brings stress back into our lives. This is partly due to the evenings drawing in and we tend to back into a more normal routine. Therefore, dedicating September to self-care is a fantastic way to re-centre yourself and prioritise your mental and emotional wellbeing. As a result, it can sets the tone for the rest of the year. As a bonus, it can help you navigate the upcoming challenges with a calm and positive mindset.

For myself, I feel it is important as a Massage Therapist, to make sure I am looking after my own wellbeing. Unquestionably, I love my job. For example, Reiki, a Deep Tissue Massage or Reflexology. Actually I don’thave a favourite treatment. However, I am aware how physical my job is. As such, I try and stay fit and healthy. Regular massage (for me fortnightly, if possible) is a great way to relax and take care of of ourselves.  Consequently, it is a way of nurturing ourselves both emotionally and physically. As such, I find it so relaxing and helps ease any tense muscles.

Tips for self-care

How you decide to bring some self-care into your life is up to you. Here are some tips for making the most of Self-Care September.
Set Realistic Goals: Don’t pressure yourself to do everything perfectly. The goal is progress, not perfection.
Get a self-care buddy : Consider involving friends or family in Self-Care September. You can support each other and share your experiences along the way.
Take a breath and pause: Take a few moments each day to think about any small ways you can contribute to Self-Care September. Continue practising self-care and nurturing your happiness throughout the following months too!
